👇🏻 Here’s a market fresh meal idea:
Ingredients (Serves 4):
For the Steak & Veggies:
– 1½–2 lbs Tenderized Beef Minute Steak (from Schinkels’)
– 2 tbsp olive oil (divided)
– 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
– 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
– 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1½ tsp steak seasoning or Montreal steak spice
– Salt & pepper to taste
For the Sandwiches:
– 4 sub or hoagie buns (soft rolls)
– 4–6 slices provolone cheese
– 2 tbsp butter (optional, for toasting rolls)
– Mayo or aioli (optional)
Directions:
Prep the Rolls
1. If you like your buns toasted, lightly butter and broil or griddle the inside of each roll until golden. Set aside.
2. Cook the Peppers & Onions
3. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
4. Add peppers and onions. Cook 6–8 minutes until softened and starting to caramelize.
5. Stir in garlic and cook 1 minute more. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Cook the Steak
1. Season the minute steak on both sides with steak spice, salt, and pepper.
2. Add remaining oil to the skillet and cook steak in batches for 1–2 minutes per side (it cooks quickly).
3. Once cooked, chop or slice into strips with a spatula or knife right in the pan.
4. Combine & Melt the Cheese
5. Return peppers and onions to the pan with the steak. Toss together to combine and heat through.
6. Layer provolone slices over the top, cover for 1–2 minutes until melted.
Assemble the Sandwiches
1. Add a swipe of mayo or aioli to toasted rolls (optional).
2. Pile the steak, peppers, onions, and melted provolone onto the buns.
Serve hot with your favourite side…
